At Flint Ridge Ranch, we breed and raise distinct, colorful draft horses and sporthorses, renowned for their athleticism and unique coat patterns. Our programs honor the legacy of Percheron breeding established by Everett Smith, featuring the 7th generation of nearly 100% Percheron horses with the distinctive "LP" gene. 

The LP Gene: Also referred to as the Leopard Complex mutation, this gene is responsible for the striking spotted Appaloosa-style coat patterns, including spots and mottled skin. 

The Rarity: Traditionally, the Percheron breed is known for its solid colors and Grays. However, the introduction of the LP gene into draft horses has led to the creation of unique and vibrant breeds and crosses. Flint Ridge Ranch proudly celebrates producing 98% Percheron horses that exhibit these remarkable LP traits.

The Record: Our ranch has achieved the remarkable feat of producing the world's only nearly-pure (98%) Percherons with this gene. While these horses are technically classified within Percheron crossbred registries or the American Sugarbush Harlequin Draft Horse breed rather than as pure, registry-standard Percherons, they represent a significant contribution to the diversity of colorful draft horses. 

Additionally, our commitment to community supported agriculture includes farm volunteering opportunities, allowing individuals to engage with our unique breeding practices. Stonewall Sporthorse, founded by Michael (Hanna) Muir, serves as the sister registry, focusing on drafts over 50% with limited breeds allowed, while ensuring that Stonewall horses are bred from and to Friesian and Knabstrupper warmbloods.
